This Pre-School In Miami Is For ALL CHILDREN, regardless of eyesight
One thing you don’t see , are schools where visually impaired children and those with sight get to learn together. The Miami Lighthouse for the Blinds new school chose to be inclusive hopes to make a difference. Traditionally, if you’re “visually impaired”, your academic environment is different. You’re separated from children who can see because you’re viewed as different.
Classes are small, 5:1 ratio. All the children get to play side by side and learn from one another.
“These students are visually impaired but in terms of their cognitive development, they have the capacity to learn and succeed in school like any other child. They just need to access the curriculum in a different way so they can be ready for kindergarten,” she said.
