Trader Joes Eliminating Over 1 Million Pounds of Plastic In Its Store
The California grocery chain made an exciting announcement recently! Trader Joes is getting rid of over 1 million pounds of single-use plastic in their store. So what does this mean exactly?
No more single-use plastic carryout bags in all stores
Plastic produce bags are replaced with biodegradable & compostable bags
Any remaining styrofoam packages in produce are replaced with bio-based compostable trays
The grocery chain is working on replacing the plastic flower bags, styrofoam used in the meat section, reducing items sold in plastic packages. Overall, Trader Joes announced this is “ongoing work” and will eliminate over 1 million pounds of plastic from stores in 2019, but that number will grow as more changes are made.
