Insulation material for our favorite jackets now comes biodegradable
It’s estimated that every year, half a million tons of plastic micro fibers shed when we wash our clothes and then end up in the ocean every year. The company that makes the microfiber insulation in jackets wants to stop that.
🧥 PrimaLoft has filled the jackets of L.L Bean, the North Face and more since the 80s using a synthetic insulation material. Over the last 5 years, the company has decided to create an alternative that wont leave a huge footprint on our planet. They’ve created a new insulation that is made out of 100% recycled polyester and whats even better is it biodegrades quickly, whether in a landfill or the ocean. As I’m sure you know by now, plastic takes hundreds of years to biodegrade and because of that, we have a ton of plastic just hanging out in the ocean.
L.L. Bean and other brands plan to begin using the material in their jackets starting in 2020.
