Britain is currently testing its first hydrogen powered train
A researcher at the University of Birmingham describes hydrogen trains are mini power stations on wheels. Now the UK has begun testing its first hydrogen train, called the Hydroflex. This is all thanks to a partnership between Porterbrook and the University of Birmingham’s Centre for Railway Research and Education (BCRRE).
HydroFLEX does not emit harmful gases like diesel trains. Hydrogen trains use hydrogen and oxygen to produce electricity, water and heat. There are only two hydrogen trains in active service in the world and they’re in Germany.
The British government wants all diesel trains gone by 2040. For more info,
