Minneapolis police are banning the use of chokeholds
In the wake of George Floyd’s passing, the city of Minneapolis is banning police chokeholds. Any officer is required to report and intervene anytime they see another officer use unauthorized force. If an officer witnesses another officer commit unauthorized use of force like a neck restraint or choke hold, they must try to intervene verbally and even physically. Officers will also now be required to immediately report the use of any neck restraint or choke hold to their commander or commander’s superiors.
Minneapolis will now require authorization from the police chief to use crowd control weapons like rubber bullets, flash-bangs, batons or any chemical agents. These changes were announced after over a week of protests across the world demanding change when it comes to police brutality.
The story is still developing.
