Florida man uses his arm cast to save elderly neighbor from house fire

Altavious Powell smelled smoke and ran to his 39 year old neighbors house, Maria Cabral. He used his cast and a plastic chair to hit the window of her Miami Gardens home until the window broke and he was able to get in. He said he found her in the hallway by her bathroom alone. 

By the time Miami-Dade Fire rescue arrived, they saw smoke but no visible fire. They told CNN that once crews got inside the house, they determined that Powell had put out “the main body of the fire”. He told CNN that she knew him most her life, “she watched me grow up since I was a little boy.”
