Human trafficking survivors in Nepal are becoming tour guides
Sasane Sisterhood Trekking and Travel is doing something unheard of. The company trains female human-trafficking survivors to become trekking guides in the Himalayas. Aiming to create a responsible tourism company, Sasane operates out of Kathmandu, Nepal. The tours they offer go through rural mountain villages in Nepal.
Becoming trekking guides allows the survivors to achieve financial independence which protects them from being re-trafficked. Every tour guide is from a rural village in Nepal and licensed through the Nepal Tourism Board. You can learn more about them on the company’s website.
