After 2 years of being stuck on an island, Hillary the donkey has finally be rescued

Hillary the donkey was stranded on a small patch of land in the middle of a California lake for over 2 years. The island is 1.3 acres big and was formed in Lake McClure after heavy winter rains filled up the reservoir. A retired police detective found her on the new island shortly after she got stuck. Now this past weekend, Hilary has finally been rescued thanks to the California Department of Fish and Wildlife. It took a week of failed attempts but they finally did it!

With the help of a donkey trailer, 20 state wildlife biologists and veterinarians, they were able to move the 600 pound donkey.

Hillary now lives at Peaceful Valley Donkey Rescue. She has a front leg injury and is in her own quarantine pen so that she can have tests run and be examined by a vet, according to a spokesperson for the rescue.
