The water and air has improved in Italy thanks to lockdown

Italy has been in lockdown due to the coronavirus and despite the negativity surrounding it, something positive has come out as a result. For the first time in decades, the fish have returned to the Venice Canal and the waters are clear.  This is thanks to the shutdown of cruise and cargo ship traffic across the Venice Canal.

Due to less boat traffic, the sediment is staying at the bottom of the canal, which is making the water clear. Usually with all the boat traffic the canal receives, it brings the sediment to the top which makes the water look murky. There’s also videos of dolphins swimming in the canal. Aside from cleaner water, the air quality in Italy has also improved thanks to the lockdown.
