Italian company creates transparent face masks to help the hearing impaired

During these challenging times, wearing a face mask has become “the new norm” as they say. Yet for millions around the world, being able to hear a voice isn’t an option so they rely on lip reading as a skill that allows them to still communicate without the need of they sign language. This is especially important for when they might be at the grocery store or even the doctor. If they cannot read the persons lips, and that person doesn’t know sign language, how would they be able to understand what they’re saying?

They wouldn’t, but thanks to Italian company Dienpi, that won’t be an issue with the face masks. The company created a transparent face mask, which allows anyone to read lips when speaking with someone, and see a friendly smile! The masks are definitely a plus for the hearing impaired, but they can also be used by businesses. Owner Doriana Marini told Bloomberg Quick Take

“Anyone can use this device to have easier communication, not just with words but also with gestures, facial expressions, lip movements and more”
