Netflix CEO and wife donate $120 million to HBCU’s

Netflix co-founder and CEO Reed Hastings and his wife Patty Quillin have announced they will be giving a large donation to HBCUs (historically black colleges and universities). The couple will give $120 million to Morehouse College, Spelman and United Negro College Fund (UNCF). This is the biggest individual donation to support scholarships at HBCUs.

Each institution will receive $40 million. The donation will provide 200 four year scholarships over 10 years for students at both colleges.

In a released statement, the couple said:

“Both of us had the privilege of a great education and we want to help more students – in particular students of color – get the same start in life.”

Netflix just announced a few days ago they will donate $5 million to support black creators, youth and black-owned businesses.
