The Only Bookstore In The Bronx Opens Tomorrow

 📍 Bronx, NY

Growing up in the Bronx, there was only one bookstore, Barnes and Noble. That changed when the store closed in 2016. Noelle Santos decided to do something about it. She grew up in Soundview and realized it was time to give back to her community.  She entered a competition for entrepreneurs and won. She used it to open a pop-up book shop at the Bronx Museum of Arts. Once Barnes and Noble officially closed, she crowdfunded a campaign to open an actual book store. She called it “Let’s bring a Goddamn bookstore to the Bronx” and raised $170,000 quickly. With one and a half million people living in the borough, Noelle’s bookstore is the only one. You can find it in the Mott Haven section, where the poverty rate is twice the city’s average
