California governor raises pride flag at state capitol for first time in history

For the first time in California’s history, the state capitol raised the pride flag. Why did California Governor Gavin Newsom decide to do this? To join the states going against the Trump administration for blocking US embassies from flying the pride flag.

Governor Newsom joined political leaders in New York and Wisconsin who also raised the pride flags for the first time at their state capitols. In a statement, Governor Newsom said:

“By flying the pride flag over the State Capitol, we send a clear message that California is welcoming and inclusive to all, regardless of how you identify or who you love.”
