Universities across the US start George Floyd scholarships
A University in Minnesota has established a scholarship fund named after George Floyd and now 12 other universities have also created their own.
The President of North Central University made an announcement during the Minneapolis memorial service for George Floyd. Scott Hagan announced the University that’s located in downtown Minneapolis, will form “the George Floyd Memorial Scholarship to contribute toward the educational promise of aspiring young black American leaders.” The University’s President also challenged every University President in the US to establish their own George Floyd Memorial Scholarship.”
During the announcement, Scott Hagan said $53,000 was already donated to the fund. According to a press release by the University, more than 15 colleges and universities have since established their own George Floyd Memorial Scholarships. Below are schools that have publicly announced their new George Floyd scholarships.
Schools that have started new scholarships in honor of George Floyd:
University of Memphis
Shelby County Schools Superintendent Dr. Joris M. Ray and University of Memphis President M. David Rudd have committed to the creation of the George Floyd Memorial Scholarship fund as a means of fighting the systemic racism and racial inequality faced by African Americans in education. The fund will provide college scholarship support for African American Male Academy members as well as college-readiness preparation.
Oakwood university
Located in Huntsville Alabama
proceeds from the fund will be used to help educate black men attending Oakwood University.
Missouri state university
Southeast Missouri state
In their press release, the university announced the scholarship would be privately funded.

The state college tweeted the fund is meant to “lift up future African American leaders who support racial justice and equity efforts in their communities.”

Texas Southern University has also offered George Floyd’s daughter Gianna a full scholarship to attend their school.
