San Francisco police will be replaced with trained, unarmed professionals to respond to non criminal calls. Mayor London Breed announced a new roadmap for police reforms. The four priorities outlined in the Mayor’s roadmap are:

  1. Demilitarize police

  2. End use of police as a response to non-criminal activity

  3. Address police bias and strengthen accountability

  4. Redirect funding for racial equity

This new police reform is supposed to be implemented over the coming months. The city’s department of Human Resources will immediately begin auditing the hiring and promotional exams by San Francisco’s sheriff and police department. Part of this new police reform includes a ban the use of military-grade weapons against unarmed civilians. Tear gas, bayonets or tanks will be banned by the end of 2021.
