Pizzeria in Chicago is producing face masks and donating food to hospitals
Dimo’s Pizza Owner Dimitri Syrkin-Nikolau wanted to make a difference during this challenging time. After consulting with some engineering friends, he realized he could use acrylic and his pizzeria’s oven to make face shields for healthcare workers. Dimitri was able to secure large sheets of acrylic and make molds for the shields thanks to Avenue Metal Co. He uses his pizzeria’s oven to heat the acrylic until it becomes malleable. Afterwards, the acrylic is set into a mold.
Since he is able to mass produce these face masks, similar to how he does with pizza, he is hoping to work with the local hospitals to get the shields to as many medical workers as possible. In the meantime, he is still consistently donating food to hospitals. Private companies have reached out to Dimo’s Pizza to purchase food for hospitals, homeless shelters and more. This is a great example of the human kindness and compassion that is very much alive during this challenging time.
